In February this year I decided to take part in Tearfund's Emerging Influencers course, which is all about helping young Christians become leaders of social justice. Through the course I learned how critical the climate crisis is, how it effects others and the urgency needed to do something about it. As part of a fundraiser for Tearfund, I therefore decided to have a month of litterpicks in my community. Many people got involved, from people at my church litterpicking, to the schools lending us litterpicks, to someone putting an article about the fundraiser and climate change. From then on, things have just blossomed. We have created a local eco group which is implementing positive change in the village, schools, local organisations and businesses. Additionally, we are making sure to educate others about climate injustice, speaking at church services, spreading knowledge through our social media and making sure its at the forefront of our conversations. We are now in the process of preparing for COP26 where many important decisions about the climate crisis will be made. I have continued to work with and support Tearfund. I am now helping lead their Take a Stand campaign, which is an open letter to world leaders to stop thinking about profit, but instead people, by sticking to their promises and take action on the climate crisis. I am excited to see how things develop and grow going forward.
